Sichuan Pepper

Title:Botanical Name: Zanthoxylum, Timur(Nepal)


Purpose
:

Timur is used in curing various common ailments such as toothache, common cold, cough, and fever, as it is believed to give warmth to the body. To cure toothache, a fresh or dry fruit is pressed over the affected tooth and is kept in position till it loses its pungency. Young shoots of timur are used as toothbrushes. Recently people have also started to use powder made from the dried fruit for cleaning teeth. Common stomach complaints are treated with timur soup. The Bhotiya community also brew liquor from timur, but the resulting liquor is palatable only to those highly addicted. Most members of the community consider the tree to have religious significance and magical properties. Walking sticks are made out of its branches. In recent times however, the use of timur in alcohol, as a spice and as a leech repellent appears to have declined

Important point:Timur is available but the strongest aromas of Timur is the best ones considered in Nepal

Branchlet used as toothbrush torelieve toothache. Berries taken to cure stomach ache and toothache. Berries are crushed and rubbed on the leg which acts as leech guard

Picrorhiza kurroa

Title:Botanical Name:Neopicrorhiza Scrophularifolia, Kutki(Nepal)


Purpose
:

In case of stomachache,heavy fever,used when ever scorpion or snake bite,people suffering from skin disease it is considered as a preventive measure,also in case of leprosy it is used and other too

We usually use the stem or branch and of this herb along with the under mud root not all but half so that it can again grow-up. Collected are properly cleaned and dried in the sun

Kutki is usually used in our foods,curry,momo,and also as a pickle

In Japan, there is no Kutki, so we had used Senburi(千振)Swertia japonica instead of Kutki.
Senburi is very, very, bitter taste. Use as stomachic or cure  internal disorders.  We use dried whole grass, except roots as medical tea.

Morinda citrifolia

Morinda citrifolia (ញធំ ឬ ញស្រុក)

Purpose: Morinda citrifolia use to treat fever, dysentery, Abscess, cough and Neuralgia.
For fever and dysentery use dried leaf to boil and drink.
For Abscess pounding fresh leaf apply on skin.
Coughing and Neuralgia eat fruit with salt.

Title: Jequirity, Lal Gedi(Nepal), Abrus precatorius

Purpose:

Eyes complaints like purulent conjunctivitis,epithelioma,ulcers,infammation which spread to the face and neck,granular ophtalmia,keratitis,angina pectoris,myocardial infarction,valvular insufficinency,cellulites,gangrene,gastritis,hypertension,nephritis,brain tumor,septicemia shock,tetanus,typhoid,dysentery,cholera,snake bite,purgative,emetic,tonic

Target:-

Research request: Abrus precatorius is found to be containing a very powerful poison known as abrin,which is a protein similar to the ricin.The seeds are having a beautiful bright red color with the black spot on it.The chewed seeds are when swallowed this vert deadly.The parts we use is its seed.

Cambodia Known as វល្លិអង្ក្រេមអង្ក្រង (Abrus Precatorius)
A medical wild plant use for treating coughing, fever, Jaundice, and Abscess.
For coughing and fever, use dried leaf, root and vine boiling and drink.
For Abscess skin, pounding seed apply on Abscess area.

How to use:

FOr cough and fever:Take fresh vinea,rod and leaves or dry air to boil water(dont remove seeds).bring the seeds to grind on the bust.

Other function:

Rural people take them mixed with other medicines to treat their diseases

Licorice root (Yesthimadhu)

Licorice root (Yesthimadhu) Glycyrrhiza glabra

Purpose: traditionally used to soothe inflammation and injury in the stomach. It also stalls the growth of Helicobacter pylori.
(Helicobacter pylori: A bacterium that causes stomach inflammation (gastritis) and ulcers in the stomach and duodenum)
Remedy for stomachache:
Take one teaspoonful of this powder and mix with half a teaspoonful of pure ghee and one teaspoonful of pure honey. Take this medicine twice daily on an empty stomach, once in the morning before breakfast and once in the afternoon before tea when the stomach is nearly empty

In Japan licorice root are also use as medicine (Japanese traditional medicine KANPO). We call them 甘草(Kanzo), because of its taste. Traditionally use to soothe pain, cramp or convulsion(especially stomach), and cough. (add Natsu 2018 0805)

Bael Fruit

Bael fruit   ផ្លែភ្នៅ  Aegle marmelos

  • Purpose: In Cambodia, people use as medicine to treat​ stomachache, and use for beauty as well (drink for skin care).
    The way of using is slice the young fruit and dry with the sunlight to keep long and boil when we need to to drink.

    Kawashima san said there are same dry fruit in India, it tasted very bad.  When I see her photo it seems dried and sugar coated.  Is there any plain dried bael fruit in India?

Commonly grow in forest.​ The fruit is sweet when it ripe.
This time, CWA Cambodia tried to make tea using the difference way, and pack whenever we want to drink will be easy.
After process as tea, it’s better to make a tea and drink as soon as possible. The taste is sweet, otherwise will be sour.
