Garlic

Title:Botanical Name:Allium sativum,Garlic(Nepal)


Purpose
:

In Gastro-intestinal Tract Disorders:-
Carminative (stops gas formation in the GIT), antiflatulent, appetiser, gastric stimulant, digestive, in atonic dyspepsia, gastrointestinal catarrh (inflammation of mucus membrane), piles and others.
2. In Respiratory Tract Disorders
Expectorant in bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pulmonary phthisis (wasting of the body), pulmonary tuberculosis, laryngeal tuberculosis, gangrene of lung, whooping cough.
3. Others
Anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic, diuretic and febrifuge, rubefacient, counterirritant, antiseptic, anti-rheumatic, anti-tumor, emmenagogue aphrodisiac, in anemia, coryza, cough, dysmenorrhea, weak heart and skin diseases.

Banyan Tree

Title:Botanical Name:Ficus bengalensis, Bar(Nepal)


Purpose
:

The bark is tonic, astringent and cooling. The seeds are also considered as cooling and tonic.

The banyan has many medicinal properties. It is used in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of several ailments. The bark and leaf buds of the tree are useful in arresting secretion or bleeding. The fruit exercises a soothing effect on the skin and mucous membranes, alleviates swelling ad pain, and serve as a mild purgative. It is also nutritious.

Diarrhoea and dysentery:
The leaf buds of the banyan tree are beneficial in the treatment of chronic diarrhoea and dysentery. The buds should be soaked in water overnight and taken as infusion in the treatment of these diasesae. The latex is also useful in the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery.

Leucorrhoea:
A regular douching of the genital tract with a decoction of the bark of the banyan tree and the fig tree is helpful is helpful in leucorrhoea. A tablespoon each of the powders of the bark of the two trees should be boiled in a litre of water till it is reduced to about half. Douching with the lukewarm decoction will keep the tissues of virginal tract healthy.

Kibes:
Those who do not wear socks and shoes suffer from cracking of heels, a condition known as kibes. The best way to deal with this condition is to fill the cracks with the sap of the banyan tree.

An infusion of the bark is a specific medicine for diabetes. The tender ends of the aerial roots can be taken in obstinate vomiting.

Purpose
:

It help in neuralgia, rheumatism, diarrhea, dysentery, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, liver problems, Gas, menorrhagia, bronchitis, colds, hiccup, congestion, edema, flu, toothache and backaches.
Its oil is used T.B. ulcers.

Barberry

Title:Botanical Name:Berberis aristata, Chutro(Nepal)


Purpose
:

Small injury,hives,for eye infection and eye problems,even for reducing fever.

The roots possess antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. The drug is used as a cholagogue, stomachic, laxative, diaphoretic, antipyretic and antiseptic. It is administered externally for painful eye afflictions and hemorrhoids. The root bark is useful in amenorrhoea.
It has an essential active ingredient, Berberine, which possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It is used in the treatment of leucorrhoea. It is also used in vaginal enema.

Cambium paste is used for rheumatism and pith paste is used for eye problems

Chiretta

Title:Botanical Name:Swertia Chirayita,Chiraito(Nepal)


Purpose
:
Chirayata is a valuable bitter tonic. It is laxative and an appetizer . It also corrects the disordered process of nutrition and restore the normal fuction of the system.

Fever
Chirayatra is an effective drug for reducing fevers.It is specially beneficial in the treatment of malarial fevers. It is also effective in hysteria and convulsion.

Stomach Disorders
The herb is an excellent drug for strengthening the stomach and promoting its action. It is used in the treatment of dyspepsia and diarrhoea.

Intestinal Worms
Chirayata possesses anthelmintic, that is, worms destroying, properties and is used in killing intestinal worms. An infusion of the herb is taken for this purpose.

General Debility
It serves as an effective tonic in case of general weakness and during convalescence. The infusion of the plant can be taken in doses of 60ml or40 tablespoons twice a day, before meals.
Preparation and Doses: The herb is used in the from of an infusion or tincture.The infusion is prepared in the hot water with aromatics likes cloves and cinnamon. It is generally taken in doses of 15 to 30 ml or 1 to 2 tablespoon.

Other Uses
Hiccups: The root of the plant is useful in checking hiccups and vomitting. It is taken in doses of 0.5 to 2 grams with honey.

The essential oil from spikenard is famous as essence of nard in New Testament (Marco 14:3).  The smell of this oil tend to ease one’s body and soul.  Dried root are famous as Kansho(甘松)or Kanshoko(甘松香)of its effect to ease pain of stomach especially from the nerve one in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine.

Picrorhiza kurroa

Title:Botanical Name:Neopicrorhiza Scrophularifolia, Kutki(Nepal)


Purpose
:

In case of stomachache,heavy fever,used when ever scorpion or snake bite,people suffering from skin disease it is considered as a preventive measure,also in case of leprosy it is used and other too

We usually use the stem or branch and of this herb along with the under mud root not all but half so that it can again grow-up. Collected are properly cleaned and dried in the sun

In Japan, there is no Kutki, so we had used Senburi(千振)Swertia japonica instead of Kutki.
Senburi is very, very, bitter taste. Use as stomachic or cure  internal disorders.  We use dried whole grass, except roots as medical tea.
