Sandle Tree

Title:Botanical Name:Santalum album,Chandan(Nepal)


Purpose
:

Sandalwood is a relaxant with sensual properties. With a fragrance described as rich, sweet, fragrant yet delicate, woody and warm, sandalwood promotes a feeling of well-being. The oil is used for all types of skin care. It is used in the treatment of bronchitis, depression, laryngitis, leucorrhoea, scars, and stress.

It is credited with alterative, antibacterial, antiseptic, astringent, carminative, diaphoretic, disinfectant, diuretic, expectorant, hemostatic, refrigerant, sedative and stimulant properties.

It is used to cool the body during fevers, sunstroke and heat stroke, to aid in passing of kidney and gall- stones and for infections in the urinary tract. It is also used in acute dermatitis, gonorrhea, urethritis, vaginitis, bronchitis and eye diseases.

Plant pacifies vitiated pitta, burning sensation, headache, hyper prespration, skin disease, psychotic ailments, memory loss, cardio myopathy, ulcer, jaundice, cough and inflammations.

Lemon Grass

Purpose
:

lemongrass has been considered a carminative and insect repellent.Crushed root juice is taken to relieve piles. Root paste applied heals cuts and wounds. Boiled leaf and root juice help in treating diarrhea and dysentery.

Mustard

Purpose
:

Rubefacient, irritant, stimulant, diuretic, emetic., pungent, laxative, digestive.

This well known spice has its use in medicine as a stimulating external application. The rubefacient action causes a mild irritation to the skin, stimulating the circulation in that area and relieving muscular and skeletal pain. Its stimulating, diaphoretic action can be utilized in the way that Cayenne and Ginger are. For feverishness, colds, and influenza, Mustard may be taken as a tea or ground and sprinkled into a bath. The stimulation of circulation will aid chilblains as well as the conditions already mentioned. An infusion or poultice of Mustard will aid in cases of bronchitis.

Infusion: pour a cup of boiling water onto l teaspoonful of mustard flour and leave to infuse for 5 minutes. This may be drunk three times a day.
Foot bath: make an infusion using 1 tablespoon of bruised seeds to l litre (2 pints) of boiling water.

Ajawon

Title:Botanical Name:Trachyspermum ammi ,Jwano(Nepal)


Purpose
:

It has long been used in indigenous medicine for the treatment of diarrhoea, dysentery, atonic dyspepsia, cholera, colic, flatulence and indigestion. For relieving flatulence, dyspepsia and spasmodic disorders, the seeds may be eaten with betel leaves. A teaspoon of these seeds with a little rock-salt is a household remedy for indigestion.

Coriander

Title:Botanical Name:Coriandrym sativum,Dhaniya(Nepal)


Purpose
:

Coriander is also used traditionally for digestive and gastric complaints as well as for coughs, chest pains, bladder complaints, leprosy rash, fever, dysentery, externally for headaches, oral and pharyngeal disorders, halitosis, and post- partal complications.

Coriander can be applied externally for rheumatism and painful joints

The fresh herb and unripe fruit has a bug-like smell, ripe fruit has a pleasant tangy smell and taste.

Preparation to eliminate genital odors and bad breath:
Bring 2 quarts of water to a rolling boil. Reduce heat and add 3-1/2 tbsp. of seed. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours until the amount has been reduced to slightly less than a quart of liquid. Add 2 tsp. fresh, finely grated orange peel and one pitted, finely chopped date. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes. Remove from heat entirely. Add I tsp. each of dried coriander leaf and finely chopped fresh parsley, with a drop or two of peppermint oil or wintergreen oil

When using for genital problems, warm up a portion and rub all around genital area. Dry in the air. Or gargle and rinse mouth with 1/2 cup while cool, but not heated.

Also very good to hold in the mouth or soak cotton with and insert to relieve toothache.

Turmeric is extremely safe. It has been used in large quantities as a food with no adverse reactions. However, persons with symptoms from gallstones should avoid turmeric.

Turmeric’s potential anti-clotting effect might cause problems for those with clotting disorders. Unusually large amount of turmeric consumption may result in stomach upset.

Do not take turmeric if you are pregnant, or if you are suffering from acute jaundice or hepatitis.

Many people take 400 mg. of turmeric three times per day in capsules or tablets. Turmeric as a spice can also be incorporated into the diet as a way to promote health.

Nepalese use turmeric in most of the food.

In Myanmar, especially in Kachin state, there is special turmeric.  They call them ‘real turmeric’.  It comes from forest area.  They use sliced and dried turmeric as mosquito repellent incense.

Onion

Purpose
:

Essential oil containing allylic disulphides, suger, inulin, quercetin, calcium, biflavanoids. The bulb contains vitamin A, B and C, protein, carbohydrate, iron etc.

Properties: Stimulant, Diuretic, antibiotic, hypoglycemic, hypotensive ( lower blood pressure), anti-inflammatory, Lithotripic ( Pertaining to removal of stone), anthelmintic, analgesic, anti-neuralgic, expectorant, anti rheumatic, corn remover, aphrodisiac, anti-dermatophytic, anti-oxidant, anti-thrombotic, blood-purifier and anti-cancer

a) in Blood pressure:
I) One teaspoonful onion juice with honey should be taken for 15 to 20 days to bring down the blood pressure.
II) Regular use of raw onion especially its yellowish and purplish scales with meals help keeping blood pressure in control.
III) Raw onion juice with honey and ginger juice reduces blood pressure and cholesterol level.

In Respiratory problems:
As it is expectorant, it is also beneficial in cough and other respiratory problem

Eating raw bulbs reduces fever acting as cooling agent.
